The Adventure Sports are dangerous?
Of course they are! Like walking in the street, driving a car or sleeping in a hammock. The important thing is that your adventure has to be organized by a professional and an experienced team that can decrease the risk to minimum. Some injuries can be more frequent, but more severe accident is rare but not impossible.
Do I need experience to do Rafting and Rappelling?
Absolutely not! Our mission is to initiate people in activities of adventure sports. Before each activity there is a theoretical and practical training that teaches the basics of the sport. Of course we should not start in a hardcore rafting or rappel down a waterfall of 80 meters, or have fear of height or water. Start on rafting Class II or III and rappel down waterfalls and cliffs up to 30 meters.
I need to know how to swim to do Rafting?
It is good if you know how to swim, but is not essential in rapids up to level III. During the training before the activity will be shown the procedures for passive swimming and the safety kayak will give special attention to you.
What should I bring to the activity?
Non-slip soled tennis shoes, short and shirt (or lycra). Sunscreen, insect repellent, towel, change of clothes and a spirit of adventure.
Is it possible to do water activities in the winter?
Yes it is. Rafting is done in Europe in the summer with water at a temperature of 10 Celsius. At the bases of Santa Catarina there are anoraks available and wetsuits for rent on cold days.
Can I buy a complete package from Ativa?
Yes you can. All bases also work as a tour operator and receptive and organize complete packages with lodging, local transportation, tours, adventures and meals. You just have to get to the base.
What about discounts?
Ativa has a policy of discounts for larger groups and for VIP guests (with three activities at the base) through the fidelity card “Aqualouco” (Crazy Waterman) which offers one free descent after four descents on the base and gives 10% discount on other bases. But there is a limit for discounts to not compromise the safety of the activity. Remember: the cost can become very expensive (or dangerous), because very low price can only be compensated in exchange of safety.
How can I recognize a professional company?
Check the years of experience of the company and it´s resume and if it is registered as such. Ask about the equipment used and if the company offers insurance. If there is safety rope in the Rappel / Cascading and safety kayak following the rafting for security. Ask about courses (recent) of first aid and if guides have been updated. Do not hesitate to ask and verify the information, because your safety is more important than the difference of a few dollars.
Brazil has many highly professional companies, but be wary of companies that offers lower prices than its competitors.
